Scholarships

Scholarships are an additional way of providing funds to cover college tuition and expenses. Scholarships are usually merit-based as opposed to Financial Aid which is need-based. Merit-based scholarships give the opportunity to those Mater Bay Rays who excel in and out of the classroom.

The most prominent state scholarship is the Florida Bright Futures scholarship. Bright Futures GPA is calculated upon 4 English, 4 Math, 3 Science, 3 Social Studies, and 2 Foreign Language credits. There are two levels to Bright Futures:

Raise.Me is a micro-scholarship program that distributes small amounts of money for tasks that high school students already have to complete. The money accrued from the Micro-scholarships is only awarded from the institution the student chooses to go to. Micro-scholarships can be awarded for good grades, campus tours, extracurriculars such as clubs and sports involvement, and community service projects.

Although we send many scholarship opportunities through our Google Classrooms, students should be actively searching for scholarships that are applicable to them. Many foundations/companies grant money for hobbies, ethnicities, field of study, etc.
