BioMedical Academy
The PLTW biomedical sciences program provides students with an understanding of biomedical sciences in the modern world and prepares them for careers in this rapidly growing field.
Students increase their awareness of the ethical, legal and social issues surrounding medical technological advances.
Coursework is rigorous with an emphasis on scientific principles and medical research. Students are exposed to key concepts useful in many career fields.
PLTW biomedical sciences courses provide a broad foundation in science and health care, and include specialized knowledge in areas of molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, microbiology, physiology, anatomy, and public health.
These courses are taken along with traditional math and science courses that prepare students for success in college.
Our program uses an amalgamation of activity, project, and problem-based teaching to engage students as they learn to solve problems, conduct research, analyze data, and learn through working with professionals in our community.
There are four phases that make up the 4-year Biomedical Academy:
Year 1- Principles of the Biomedical Sciences
Year 2- Human Body Systems
Year 3- Medical Interventions
Year 4- Biomedical Innovation
